Why was the Spot-A-Mug program started? The Spot-A-Mug program was created to promote reuse. With the rate of consumption among Americans gradually increasing, the waste stream produced by disposable product has been a continual and growing concern. A large amount of the waste stream on campus is composed of unrecyclable beverage containers, which results in them being thrown into the university landfill. Using reusable mugs cuts back on a significant amount of waste created daily.
