What is a Desktop Battery Bin? If you're tired of carrying all your batteries to the nearest Multibin then the Desktop Battery Bin may be your solution! It is a small convenient bin that sits on top of your desktop and stores your used batteries.

How do I get one of these cool Desktop Battery Bins? It's easy! Simply fill out a Desktop Battery Bin request form here and we'll send one right away.

What types of batteries go into these bins? These bins are able to store household/rechargeable:

  • AA
  • AAA
  • AAAA dry-cell alkaline
  • C
  • D
  • 6-volt
  • 9-volt
  • cell phone batteries

What do I do when my bin is full? Once your bin is filled, send the bins through inter-campus mail in an envelope labeled: Lin King, R4 Recycling Program. PLEASE! DO NOT SEND THE BATTERIES WITHOUT THE BIN DUE TO SAFETY HAZARDS! Also, please do not put more than one desktop battery bin in an inter-campus mail envelope.

What's the difference between non-rechargeable and rechargeable batteries and which kind should I buy? Non-rechargeable batteries contain alkaline, lithium, mercury and other hazardous materials. They cannot be reused and must be disposed of after use. A better choice is rechargeable batteries made of nickel-cadmium. Not only do they reduce the amount of waste because they can be reused, but it also saves you money. Batteries can be expensive and by simply recharging them, you can reuse them over and over without the hassle of going out and spending more money on new batteries.

Note: Desktop Battery Bins will be sent to and from R4 to locations reachable by inter campus mail services only.
