R4 Recycling Construction & DemolitionAssisting in productive solutions since 2004
Construction Sign
The R4 Construction and Demolition (C&D) Waste Management team works with UC Davis Architects and Engineers,UC Davis Facilities Management, and the respective contractors and subcontractors to meet and to surpass waste reduction and recycling goals. In 2007, R4 tracked 5,677 tons of Construction and Demolition waste (trash and recyclables) from the UC Davis campus. Per University of California, Office of the President (UCOP) policy, R4 reported this statistic to the UCOP along with other UC Davis waste stream data. Recently, UC Davis Architects & Engineers increased the C&D waste diversion goal from 50% to 75% (Section 017400 (pdf) in the project contract). A few projects (i.e. Aggie Stadium and the Graduate School of Management) set higher waste diversion goals (85% and 95%) to achieve additional sustainability benefits and/or LEED points. Ultimately, the R4 C&D Waste Management team aims to collaborate with builders on campus to develop a world-class waste reduction and recycling effort; no matter how big or how small. |
