Thank Goodness for Staff 2009

A Zero Waste Event

The Event

The annual staff picnic was held May 13, 2009, at Hutchison Field, and the lunch was prepared by campus food service provider Sodexo. The Cal Aggie Band performed, and the TGFS Idol contest entertained staff.

TGFS also included a vendor showcase, Guess the Weight contest, Gunrock Bingo, and a raffle.

R4 encouraged University Catering to provide compostable materials and buy products that minimized waste. For example, compostable utensils and self serve reusable containers for sauces were used instead of plastic utensils and individually packed sauces, which reduce the waste stream. Also, the ice cream bars came from a supplier that uses a paper (compostable) wrapping instead of a plastic wrapping.

R4 also tabled the event, which gave us the opportunity to talk to and educate 400 staff members about recycling on campus
