Office supplies made from recycled post consumer paper |
 | Those 3 arrows you keep seeing everywhere were designed to be symbolic of the 3 steps involved with recycling: collection, reprocessing, and repurchasing. Rebuying goods shows your support of recycling and makes the work we have all put in worthwhile, not to mention completing the recycling loop! |
In addition to the many community agencies that welcome donations of goods, there are many places where you can not only give away or sell your reusable items but can also buy used items. This "give and take" approach to possessions is sound from a solid waste management standpoint. We encourage you to patronize both nonprofit and commercial operations which further the re-use ethic. Since the number of such establishments is so extensive, we have not tried to include all of them here but have listed a range of reusable items and how to find them.
If you are interested in purchasing a reused item, some of the best places to look are thrift stores, classified ads, and yard/garage sales. Also look for stores specializing in the particular item you are interested in, for example, a used bicycle store or a used baby furniture and clothing store. Many specialty stores also maintain either indoor or outdoor bulletin boards which advertise used goods. Below is a listing of how to locate some of these specialty stores or particular used goods.
